“For me yoga is about coming into balance and feeling more deeply connected. Initially yoga began as a physical experience, an enjoyable way of giving my ‘whole body’ a workout but over time yoga has become more of a mindful and soulful experience”.
Originally from the UK, Amanda arrived in Queenstown as a backpacker in 1993 and never left like many POMs do. Having loved gymnastics as a youngster and aerobics as an adult, it was love at first sight when she encountered yoga in Queenstown 15 years ago. Amanda taught the Les Mills Body Balance/Flow for seven years and completed her Yoga Alliance 200 hours Teacher Training in Vinyasa Flow this year with Sandi Murphy and Nianna Bray.
As a Psychology Graduate, Certified Life Coach (CoachU ACTP) and NLP Practitioner (TransformatioNZ), Amanda enjoys weaving life lessons into her yoga teaching. When people arrive on the mat after a day of racing around getting things done, a YIN yoga class brings a sense of groundedness and greater peace of mind. After a day of sitting at the computer, nothing beats an enlivening Vinyasa Flow (yang) class. You will often hear Amanda encouraging students to listen to their body and give it what it needs. She often incorporates principles of Mindfulness – observing the ruminations of the mind, which are fleeting, and developing awareness that we are more than just our mind . “Ultimately I want all of my students to step off the mat and back into life feeling restored, more balanced, more present and more connected.”
Amanda is passionate about wellness, loving life and following your heart. She is Co-Director of Soul Journeys – Wellness Retreats, which is based at the Nadi Wellness Centre in Queenstown. Amanda provides Life Coaching to local women on a referral basis, to support their wellness, happiness and personal fulfillment.
With a professional background is in Leadership Development, Amanda continues to facilitate and coach several Retreat Programmes a year throughout NZ and Oz with The Institute for Strategic Leadership, helping Managers to step up and become better Leaders. “Life is busy and incredibly fulfilling, hence the continuous need to come back into balance…. speaking of which… off for a spot of yoga – ahh!”
