Yoga Styles

At Yoga Nadi we teach an integrated approach to hatha yoga practise assimilating flowing physical postures (vinyasa) with conscious breath guidance (pranayama), meditation and yoga philosophy to unite mind, body and spirit.

Alignment focussed classes are designed to improve strength, flexability and balance encouraging a greater sense of health and wellbeing.

Our teaching combines elements of Jivamukti, Sivananda, Astanga, vinyasa and Iyengar styles. Each instructor has their own unique style and approach and blocks, straps and bolsters are available to support and modify postures safely.

The ancient sage Patanjali defined yoga in his profound yoga sutras or aphorisms as the neutralisation of the waves of feeling “ yogas chitta vritti nirodh”

Chitta (feeling) may be translated as mind stuff, consciousness or subconsciousness.. Paramahansa Yogananda pointed out that those waves in the mind that produce delusion are primarily our likes and dislikes- the biased feelings of  the heart.

So the goal of our yoga practise then is to neutralise these waves of likes and dislikes and  re discover in our bodies and minds a sense of balance and equanimity.
